A young man of no station, and no real prospects, Raldoran made his living as a free blade and soldier of fortune, most recently as hired security for a merchant-baroness needing armsmen to guard her caravans. Having made several trips north across the Spine, Raldoran is no stranger to Ten Towns, but learned little of the greater region other than his wages kept him in entertainment longer here than in the south. His employment came to an end when the caravan was ambushed as Ten Trail came down from the mountains and into the forests. Injured, Raldoran fled from the brigands who sacked the merchant wagons. He did not, however, make it to safety. Disarmed and bleeding, he soon drew the attention of a pack of timber wolves, near starved and vicious. The wolves struck, tearing huge wounds across most of his right side, torso, arm and neck.
When he awoke, he was most surprised to not be dead. His body seemed whole and healthy; he was clothed and warm. He appeared to be in a sheltered clearing, the dying remains of a small fire still giving off some light and warmth. Near his bedroll was a pack with provisions and supplies travel, but the owner of these items, his presumed savior, was nowhere to be found. It was only later that he learned his wounds, the flesh torn away from the wolves, seemed to be replaced with ice. The ice moved and shifted as his body moved, and the seam between ice and flesh was flawless, though quite distinct. In certain light, his ice flesh is as mirror-black as a frozen lake, in others it is the crystal blue-white of a glacier. He would learn later that his eyes now shared this icy property, with no visible iris or pupil.
He hasn’t yet learned the source of his salvation, but knows from experience that nothing is given without payment. He fears what bargain his broken self would have made, and is haunted by the dream of an impossibly large cave of ice, too huge to comprehend.
To account for his new physiology, and abilities he never had before, Raldoran uses the rules for a Tiefling Paladin, with the Haunted One background.
